Hopefully, the long weekend has begun for folks on both sides of the pond. Going to make a little time for some marathon telly watching? That said, I’m thinking you’re needing a classic British comedy fix, at some point, during the long weekend. Some suggestions….
Have loved this series for a long, long time. Gary Sparrow (Nicholas Lyndhurst) determines he can easily time travel between 1940′s wartime London and his present day job as a television repairman. He soon sets up a dual life between the two decades, opening a shop that sells “vintage collectables” from his life during the war while creating the illusion of working for the Allies to put an end to WWII.
Morecambe and Wise
This classic British sketch comedy series has stood the test of time given its’ peak performance was the late 60′s, early 70′s. Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise laid the groundwork for virtually every sketch comedy series on the air today.
It’s hard to believe, whether or not you either are watching this for the first time or it’s an annual ritual, that this is as relevant and timely today as it was when first written by Anthony Jay and Jonathon Lynn. Nigel Hawthorne is just plain brilliant. It doesn’t get any better than this.
I know, you’re saying there’s always a new season of Dexter, The Office, 30 Rock or Weeds to catch up on. One can never get enough Curb Your Enthusiasm, Extras or The Shield, but think about a little classic British comedy to make you smile over the weekend. Happy viewing.
